City Council

The Mayor and City Council determine policies, enact legislation and provide political leadership in the community. The City of Dawsonville is governed by a Mayor and four Council members, who are elected by a City-wide popular vote. City (municipal) elections are non partisan; i.e. candidates do not run as members of a particular political party, and their individual party affiliations are not relevant to their positions in City government. Elected officials serve for terms of four (4) years and until their respective successors are elected and qualified.

New council members take office and are sworn in on the first Tuesday in December following the November election. The council member who hold posts 1 and 2 shall be elected in the same odd year; the Mayor and Council members who hold posts 3 and 4 shall be elected in the alternating odd year.  Responsibility and authority to carry out the laws enacted by the elected officials are delegated to a professional staff. Mayor and Council meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council chambers, and a work session is held as needed. Special meetings may be called as necessary. Residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

City officials are here to serve the needs of the Dawsonville residents. Please view their individual web page for their contact information.
