Message from your Mayor…….Mike Eason I want to thank everyone for your cooperation during this time of confusion and uncertainty that is going on in our country. Your City government is just like every other government agency in this country; we are trying to do the best we can, so please be patient with us as we work through this and try to provide you the services you need and the type of community in which you want to live. Yes, I was thinking about this newsletter as I drove up past Shoal Creek and Perimeter Road and I noticed that they were pouring the last of the sidewalk connecting the Rainhill subdivision to our sidewalk network in the city. This will complete another phase of our connectivity to our downtown district with sidewalks. We still have several to do, but this is a big step towards making our city walkable and friendly to pedestrians. In spite of the virus, the City has many projects still underway and we are still trying to complete our bathroom at Main Street Park and it is moving forward rapidly. As you know, the Farmers Market is open and available for purchasing locally grown or produce products every Saturday morning between 8 am and 12 pm. Hopefully, by the end of next month, we will be extending that to Wednesday afternoons also. Please bear with us as we try to make these improvements to your city and continue to work together with you and our county partners to make this a great community. Please don’t hesitate to contact myself or any member of our City Council with any questions or concerns you have about the city government operation and suggestions for how we can improve it. I’ll look forward to hearing from you. I hope you have a great day. |
A message from your City Manager…….Bob Bolz To ensure our ISO rating for fire protection is maintained, hydrant testing is underway and should continue one or two days a week through the month of July. This a required annual event and keeps our homeowner insurance rates down and maintains our ISO Rating of 3. Please be patient with this process, as it may cause some cloudy water. Staff will be working diligently to clear the lines as they go. If you experience any discolored water, you may need to flush your lines. This does not impact drinking water quality in any way. If you have questions, please call City Hall at 706-265-3256. Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black was the guest of honor at the grand opening of the Amicalola Regional Farmers Market and ribbon cutting for the new City of Dawsonville Farmers Market Pavilion on July 18th. The fourth season of the market opened earlier this spring and is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. until sold out or noon. The market is held at the brand-new City of Dawsonville Farmers Market Pavilion located on Allen Street, which Our staff at the City of Dawsonville hope you and yours are healthy. We continue steps to protect our customers and personnel while limiting the spread of the COVID-19 virus. With the recent record-breaking spike in COVID cases, City Hall is closed. We also encourage use of ACH debit, online payments, pay by phone, or our convenient drop box at City Hall for water/sewer/garbage bills. Almost all city services can be done online. Water and sewer service, as well as public works will continue normal operations with staggered staff schedules. The City Council meeting for July 20th will be done virtually and may be viewed via our live streaming efforts on Facebook or the recorded version on our website. Staff can be reached via website, email or telephone. Friday Night Food Truck Night scheduled for July 10th was cancelled at the recommendation of the local manager for the Department of Public Health due to the pandemic. Our next Food Truck Night is scheduled for August 14th. We hope the public health situation will be better and allow that event to proceed. |
July Employee Spotlight: Stan Zaveruhka, Permit Technician Our July Employee Spotlight falls on Department of Planning & Zoning Permit Technician, Stan Zaverukha. This department handles all planning and zoning issues, such as soil erosion standards, building permits, site and building inspections, business licenses, annexations, rezones, sign permits, code enforcement, coordination the Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions, the new Design Guidelines Committee, and much more. At the present time, we are seeking a new PZ Director, which means the department duties are being handled by only two people, with Stan being one of those. He and our inspector are to be commended for stepping up and going above and beyond to keep this office functioning and functioning well. Stan was born in the Ukraine and raised in Massachusetts. He and his wife Corina enjoy grilling out, travel hiking, going to the beach, and spending as much time as possible outside. This summer they had planned a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Iceland but had to cancel due to the pandemic. We hope they can make this trip in the future. A former Employee of the Month and the Quarter, Stan has been a member of our team for almost two years. He is always willing to do whatever is necessary to help the City of Dawsonville and our customers. We are proud of Stan and appreciate his attention to detail and dedication to duty.
