SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER 2020 |
Message from your Mayor…….Mike Eason October is almost upon us and we have lots happening in our city. As most of you know, the City of Dawsonville approved the permit for KARE 4 KIDS to hold the 53rd Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival. We are concerned about the possibility of large crowds in our community, especially when most of them will be coming from out of our area. There have been some conditions established that we hope will provide the safest festival possible. The festival will be located in Main Street Park, Allen Street and Memory Lane to keep GA Hwy. 9 and Hwy. 53 open through town. Also, all vendors will be required to wear masks and we ask visitors to wear masks also. In other happening news, the Farmers Market continues to operate and will continue until the first frost, most likely in early November. Vendors operate on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and on Wednesday afternoons from Staff continues to conduct sanitization procedures on the playground equipment on a regular basis. Please be aware of the signs when this is taking place and do not enter the playground until the process is complete. Please remember to wear your masks as much as possible when out in businesses. We are all in this together! It looks like the beautiful fall weather is just around the corner, so please get out and enjoy the outdoors at Main Street Park |
A message from your City Manager…….Bob Bolz Great news, COVID numbers are slowly going down! City Hall is open and ready to serve. However, in the interest of public health, you are encouraged to wear a mask as you enter City Hall or utilize online services whenever possible. The brand-new City of Dawsonville Farmers Market Pavilion located on Allen Street, paid for out of SPLOST VI funds, is home to the Amicalola Regional Farmers Market. The Farmers Market is held every Wednesday from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until sold out. They hope to operate through November. Staff hosted Food Truck Friday on September 11th and it was a tremendous success. Held at the Farmers Market, the event featured four food trucks, two of which completely sold out. Our next event is scheduled for October 2nd. Main Street Park is open and being well used. The new restroom should be complete this month. We are pleased to announce several donors who have contributed trees, benches and swings to this beautiful park. Their commitment to our community is exemplary. These include Dawsonville Civitan Club, Dawson County Woman’s Club, Mayor Mike Eason family, Miles Family and KK Turner Family. We currently have three Eagle Scout candidates working on projects to provide additional amenities to the park, such as a dog park, a hiking trail, and a disc golf course. In 2017 we began offering a lending library and food donation opportunities. These are housed in two modified whiskey barrels attractively located in front of City Hall. If you have non-perishable food, please donate them to City Hall. Additionally, if you have books that you are willing to donate, please drop them off as well. |
September Employee Spotlight: Clay Moss, Roads Equipment Operator Our September Employee Spotlight falls on Clay Moss, a member of our outstanding Public Works Department. As an Equipment Operator I, he and his teammates are charged with maintaining over 12 miles of roadway, which includes keeping the roads safely open, clean and in good shape, even during the challenging winter months that bring snow and ice or the recent severe weather. They maintain over 10 miles of sidewalk, take care of the cemeteries, Wallace Park, the new Main Street Park and the Farmers Market. It is their job to maintain all grass, keep trash picked up, stormwater facilities operating and in good shape city-wide. They also take care of the City Hall building complex that includes the GA Racing Hall of Fame and the Distillery, as well as City Hall. This crew works with HOA’s to install speed bumps, directional signs and other tasks. Clay has just started his third year of service to Dawsonville and its citizens. Clay and Donna live on the west side of the county. A graduate of Dawson County High School, Clay is an avid fisherman and fishes in several tournaments each year. He is also interested in all things sports and follows college and professional football closely. Clay obtained his certification as a Playground Inspector by the CPSI, a coveted certification that makes the City’s playgrounds safer. A former Employee of the Month, Clay has skills in several areas, including carpentry, electrical wiring and other trades that bring great benefit to our public works department. Thanks Clay, for the fine job you do. |
