Roads and Sidewalks
The Public Works Roads Department is responsible for maintenance to all City streets, from repairing potholes, sinkholes and sidewalks, to maintaining and replacing signs, to clearing after storms.
This department is responsible for the maintenance of all City streets, right-of-ways, utility easements, facilities and storm water drainage systems within the City of Dawsonville city limits. In addition, the Public Works Department provides direct and in direct support to other organizations responding to both man-made and natural disasters. Prior to working within the City's right-of-way, please contact the Roads Department.
Did you know that not all streets within the City are owned and maintained by Dawsonville? Some streets within the City are privately owned, or are maintained by either Dawson County or the Georgia Department of Transportation (GA DOT).

Georgia Department of Transportation roads: Dawsonville, Dawson County is served by Georgia DOT District One. The Area 1 office located in Gainesville, their contact information is (770)535-5759 or www.dot.ga.gov. GDOT maintains State Routes: SR9, SR53, SR136, and SR183.

Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG)
- FY 2013: Installed 431' of sidewalk along Tucker Ave and East 1st Street
- FY 2014: Installed 230' of sidewalk along Tucker Ave and Shoal Creek Road
- FY 2015: Road Improvements on .43 miles of Burt Creek Road
- FY 2016: Installed .12 miles of sidewalk on Memory Lane to Allen Street
- FY 2017: Installed .18 miles of sidewalk on Howser Mill Road
- FY 2017: (LMIG-OSS) Installed .45 miles of sidewalk on portion of Perimeter Road
- FY 2018: Installed 695' if sidewalk on JC Burt Road w. 2 ADA ramps
- FY 2019 and FY 2020: Mill, pave and stripe 4,150 feet of Perimeter Road
- FY 2021: (LMIG-SAP) Restripe various streets & crosswalks & install new signs
- FY 2021-FY 2022: Install 1800' of sidewalk on Allen Street and extend down to MSP
- FY 2023: Not completed: To be combined with future funding to pave Maple Street
Road Name Changes: The City Council approved changing the road names in Downtown Dawsonville on August 5, 2013: Harry Melling St, Lloyd Seay St, Roy Hall St, Raymond Parks St, Bill Elliott St, Bernard Long St, Gober Sosebee St, and Ted Chester St.
